What happen if you’ve fallen in love with your work?

Sometimes I ask myself, what would I do if I retire. Guess what my answer is? I will still be doing the same thing as what I’m preparing to doing now!!!

Will you say you are going to ‘retire’ from your hobby? You won’t, right?

You may be wondering what is it that I’m doing everyday that makes my work so interesting.

Let me tell you the truth……

I’m doing all the boring things that you probably have been dragging yourself to do; things like writing articles, posting ads, replying emails, creating websites and managing freelancers.

I bet this is not the first time you heard people saying that to succeed, you must love what you do. But I bet no one has told you my version:

“To succeed, you must love the boring things that you do.”

Most people can’t succeed online because they’ve been painted with the fantasy of easy money, but when they get down to the actual work, they find it boring and the y

Don’t ask me how I fell in love with the boring things. It’s like falling in love with your wife (or husband). There is no reason!

Now do you know why all successful people will tell you that they love what they do? Because “beauty” lies in the eyes of beholder. The beauty here refers to their work.

If you try doing things that they love doing, you may just find them boring.

So, how do you fall in love with the boring things in internet marketing?

Like I said earlier, I don’t know how. To me, it’s like falling in love with your loved one. Is it fate? I don’t know.

But what I can tell you is that when I first started, I was motivated by the money. But as I went through the process, I slowly get used to it and it has become part of my life.

Come to think about it, that’s how two person fell in love with each other, isn’t it? For example, you may fall in love with someone for a particular reason, but when you’re truly in love, what you really love is the feeling of being together.

So the moral of this article is, if you want to fall in love with the boring things that you do, keep working until you get used to it.

How Do We Use Web Pages…I mean You

1. Don’t make me think: Basically the web user does not want to venture into a site that requires them to figure it out. It should be self-evident.

How do we use web pages:

a. We don’t read pages, we scan them

b. We don’t make optimal choices, we satisfice

c. We don’t figure out, how things work, we muddle through

2. It doesn’t matter how many times I click as long as each click is a mindless unambiguous choice

3. Get rid of half the words on each page, then get rid of half of what’s left.

capture3When blogging hit the web, it did so with a bang. Blogging is now one of the most popular forms of communication via the web. Before, web surfers would simply browse through sites with pre formatted text on them. There was very little chance for a surfer to comment on a site or to offer their opinion on anything. If a surfer wanted to voice their opinion via the web, they had to start their own web page. Starting a webpage is perfect for some surfers, but it is way too complicated for most. In addition, starting a webpage usually takes a small investment, which is something not many surfers want to offer up just so they can post their views.

People today can find blog sites that offer blog space for much less than a typical webpage. Many sites will offer blog space for free. When you begin a blog, you will notice that they are all laid out basically the same way. Some experts will call their layout the last-in-first style. This is a very tricky name that simply notes that the last thing the person, or blogger, wrote will show up at the top of the blog. Most blogging software allows for this automatically. When you sign up at a blogging site and are given your own blog space, you will likely see that after you finish typing your post and submit it, the blogging software will automatically put your last entry at the top of your blog. This helps your readers stay current without having to scroll through many posts.

When you first get your own blog space, the blogging software will usually provide you with free templates to utilize. The templates will offer you different color and pattern styles for your blog. Some may look more feminine with flowers or pink stripes, while others will look more masculine in style. You simply choose one of the suggest templates and the software will set everything else up for you. If you have programming skills, you can typically alter this to make your own style as well.

After choosing your template, you will be ready to begin posting. The great thing about the blogging phenomenon is that you can post anything you like. If you are feeling a little upset about your significant other or if you want to share some political views, you can write about them and share them with anyone who reads your blog. A blog is typically a lot like a diary. It may not be quite as personal, or it may be even more personal. It all depends on how much you are willing to share. You can choose to make your blog anonymous by not including your name or any contact information. This will probably make you even more comfortable posting. If you wish however, you can make your information known so that anyone who reads the blog will know it is you who is posting.

Blogs are the perfect sounding board because they allow you to post and allows others to comment on your posts. By allowing others to comment, you can truly see how others feel about what you have to say. Sometimes they will offer applause and sometimes they will criticize. No matter what however, by blogging you have successfully used your freedom of speech. You should use this right whenever you can, as it is one that those before us fought strongly for and we still continue to fight for on occasion.

Many blogs today are becoming much more complex however. Some are offering graphic options. Web users are now using this space to display pictures they have. Some people with family far away will use the blog to share day to day things or special moments with their loved ones far away. By posting information and pictures, their family and friends can log in whenever they want to check in on the blogger. Blogs mean different things to different people. They are used as diaries, sounding boards, or family update pages. They are very simple to use and are being seen all over the web. Although there are few rules to blogging at this time, there is one thing that is certain. With its growing popularity, blogging is here to stay!

What Is List and Why Build and Use List

What is a List?
Unlike grocery lists or spare parts lists, in the marketing sense of the term, a ‘list’ refers to a list of customers. More specifically, in regards to internet marketing, it refers to a list of emails through which potential customers can be contacted.

If you’ve ever faced a situation where you needed to enter your details (especially your email) before you download something, then chances are that you are, or have been, part of a someone else’s list.

Even large companies that are already very established use email lists of their own to keep track of their customers, and alert them to new developments, offers, and so forth. Of course, this ties in to yet another question at hand…

Why Build and Use a List?
Commonly, not having a list is said to be ‘leaving money on the table’, and that much is
certainly true.

Take the example of a conventional clothes store. Customers come, browse around, maybe buy something, and then leave. Once they’ve left, the store has no way of getting in touch with them, and maybe convincing them to come back again.

On the other hand, if the store had their contact details, they could notify them when they have a new stock of clothes on the rack, or special discounts, and so on. By doing so, the customer would then feel compelled to perhaps come back, or at very least would consider doing so.

Similarly, in whatever niche that you’re into, if you had a list of previous customers then whenever you have a new product, or some other offer, you’d just be able to shoot out emails and see if anyone is interested. Simple as it sounds, this is amazingly effective.

Think about it in terms of figures, if that helps. Let’s say you have an 8,000 strong list, and you send out an email regarding your latest product that costs $20. Even if only 10% of your list buys your product, that is 800 instant customers and you would have made $16,000.

To sum it up, the reason to build and use a list is to establish a firm base of regular customers to which you can market your products and offers too with great ease.

McDonald’s Lost to The McCurry

capture1

World fast food chain McDonald’s has lost the battle to stop local Indian restaurant McCurry Restaurant (KL) Sdn Bhd from using the “Mc” trademark.

McDonald’s lost its exclusivity to the use of the prefix “Mc” when the Court of Appeal here allowed a local Indian food outlet, McCurry Restaurant, to use “Mc” in its business signage.

In announcing a unanimous decision today, the Federal Court also ordered McDonald’s to pay RM10,000 cost to McCurry which has an outlet in Kuala Lumpur.

“Our view is that the questions posed by McDonald’s were not properly framed and the court should dismiss the leave application,” said Chief Judge of Malaya.

The court adjourned the case yesterday after finding questions raised by Mcdonald’s lawyers were unclear and asked that they be rephrased. McDonald’s filed a leave application to appeal after the Court of Appeal on April 29 ruled it was wrong to assume that McDonald’s had a monopoly on the use of the prefix ”Mc”.

During the court hearings, McCurry contended that McDonald’s could not claim monopoly or exclusive rights to the use of “Mc” as that prefix was extensively used around the world as surnames, particularly by people of Scottish origin.

McCurry Restaurant said the menu was essentially Malaysian and Indian cuisine consisting of teh tarik, roti canai, nasi lemak, nasi briyani, fish head curry, chicken tandorri, naan bread, tosai, chappati and various chicken and mutton curry dishes, which were totally different from those available in McDonald’s restaurants which comprise food typically found in western food restaurants such as burgers and french fries.

My Blog Exercise…

pc-tipsToday I like to share with you my blog exercise  ideas for my blog as been teach by Problogger mentor Darren Rows.

How might your blog look in 4-5 years time? Create a list of 10 ways that you might one day expand your blog.

I know this seems like a pretty crazy task for some of you because I know for a fact that many Alex Jeffreys students are just starting out and are still in their launch (or even pre-launch) phase – however I do think that this type of exercise can be helpful even if you don’t do much with the ideas you come up with.

For me this type of brainstorming has not only led to concrete ideas and plans but even just the process of dreaming has inspired me to keep growing my blogs. I also think that having some bigger possibilities in mind can sometimes help you to shape your blog in the here and now.

So open up a document or grab a pen and paper or a whiteboard and start to dream and brainstorm about how you might one day expand your blog.

While I don’t want to limit your brainstorming by giving you too many ideas – you might like to think about some of these:

-different mediums you might like to add (video, forums etc)
-other related blogs you could start
-services that you could offer
-new categories that you could write about
-new sections of your site that you could add
-new features that you could offer readers

If you’d like to share some of what you come up with please feel free to share some of your thoughts in comments below – but in the mean time do the exercise for yourself and see where it might lead you!
